This one is a big job - and we're just getting started. Phase 1 of this backyard build was all about getting the bones right. That meant designing and installing tiered retaining walls to work with the natural slope of the property and create the flat, usable space needed before a single paver ever hits the ground.

Here's the thing about sloped backyards - they look like wasted space until someone builds them right. Without a proper retaining wall system, you're looking at erosion problems, unusable terrain, and nothing to anchor a patio to. Getting the grading and wall structure dialed in first is what separates a backyard that lasts from one that shifts and settles after a few years.

The block work you're seeing came together in two tiers, with steps built right into the wall to connect the levels. Once the walls were up and the patio base was prepped and leveled, the pavers started going down. You can see the jointing sand being worked into the surface - that finishing step locks everything in tight and keeps the patio looking clean long-term.

Phase 2 is going to be something special. This whole setup is being built to frame a paver patio with a lakeview backdrop. The structure is there. The foundation is solid. Now it's just about laying the last stones and finishing out a space this homeowner will actually use for years.

This is exactly the kind of multi-phase project we love - where the planning and precision in the early stages make the final result look effortless. Tiered retaining walls paired with a custom paver patio installation is one of the most impactful things you can do with a sloped backyard, and this one is shaping up to be a great example of that.
